Thread: shutdown or reboot only logs out
hello. 11.04 ubuntu, installed meta-package xfce4 (*).
now, in xfce4 session, "suspend" , "logout" (from xfce4-panel button) works, "shutdowmn" , "reboot" not, lead gdm. (the shutdowm option there works.)
tried solve installing meta-package "xubuntu-desktop" (maybe there necessary settings included?), , in fact, login-screen changed (it's still gdm, suppose) , there "xubuntu" session, in that, probem same: shutdown leads login screen.
in gnome classic or unity, shutdowmn works shoulds, it's not general problem computer.
how can fix that?
(*)
in detail, in forst tried install xfce4 ubuntu-software-center, although seemed succeed, there no xfce session. in synaptic, installing xfce3 metapackage worked. in fact, software-center seemed have overlooked dependencies...
i don;t know sure, have never run multiple des on 1 box, think has how de started.
in old days, invoke vtty ctrl + alt + f1-6, , use stop x. before gdm respawning service. once stopped whatever needed to, , run 'startx' reload desktop. when wanted shut down manually started session, not within gnome.
think experiencing same thing xfce, because gdm default , xfce invoked standalone session.
command line tools should work fine though. create launchers 'shutdown'/'halt'/'reboot' , shutdown way.
