Thread: 11.04 killed sound for other OSes?

hiya!

i'm running dual-boot machine win7 ultimate 64bit , ubuntu 11.04 64bit, both kept up-to-date. weird problem don't sound @ except in ubuntu. works fine here, win7 silent since couple of days. @ first thought win7 problem, isn't. , don't have dedicated sound card using onboard/internal sound.

in meantime i've installed several others linux distros (the latest versions of zenwalk, vector linux, , anti-x precise) instead of ubuntu, , didn't sound @ in of them. i've re-installed ubuntu 11.04 scratch , have sound again, yet still in ubuntu , not win7. , i've installed win7 scratch, sure.

familiar windows, "green volume bars" nicely moving , down (yeah, technical phrasing )when i'm playing videos or music supposed - there's no sound hear.

reason why think problem related / caused ubuntu worked fine until last ubuntu update couple of days ago. , if windows problem, @ least other linux distros ought produce sound.

desperately needed , highly appreciated. thanks!

still having problem. searching around web showed similar problem occured ubuntu 9.10, solutions provided don't work 11.04; https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/453395

suggested solution seemed work edit /etc/init.d/alsa-utils, , comment 378th line: > # mute_and_zero_levels "$target_card" || exitstatus=1

strangely, there no alsa-utils in described location or anywhere else. alsa-related files alsa-store , alsa-restore.
