Thread: change prompt in terminal

hi all,
problem pretty minor, think.

guy set computer up, left prompt don't like.
"james@offra-200:~$"

can permanently change :
"offra@hp200:~$"

if so, how?

thank

issue 'hostname' command change temporarily
code:
wim@desktop-01:~$ sudo hostname abc wim@desktop-01:~$
result of above action (start new terminal)
code:
wim@abc:~$ hostname abc wim@abc:~$
if works, edit /etc/hostname make change last after reboot
code:
wim@abc:~$ cat /etc/hostname desktop-01 wim@abc:~$
the file still reflects original hostname.

ps
read 'man hostname'
