Thread: Nvidia GPU temperature help?

i have gigabite nvidia gtx460 1g graphics card 270... nvidia driver latest in ubunru repos. in nvidia control center there 2 power options, 1 adaptive , second - prefer high performance. second option runs gpu @ full speed. but! makes gpu temperature jump 50c @ idle, , when compiz effects used may jump higher.
noticed fan speed stays @ 40% , there no option change it. adapive power mode keeps gpu cool 38c sets clock speed of gpu low compiz lags. guess fan speed not changing tegards power mode keeps gpu not cooled enough. there option fix it? change fan speed or whatever?

don't worry it. you're using nvidia driver v.195, right?

temperatures incorrectly reported in driver version. remember when first installed lucid, noticed reported temperature looked , found out bug. if works don't have worry it. if need accurate temperature reporting can newer nvidia drivers adding x-swat ppa software sources. note these drivers have not been thoroughly tested 1 in ubuntu repository may not work you.

if you're still interested, here's how add ppa:

open terminal , do:

code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates && sudo apt-get update
now can new driver "hardware drivers" or synaptic.

don't know if it's needed, can uninstall old driver version before installing new 1 keep clean.

luck.
