Thread: Question about an option for dd comand

hi,

saw in man page , wondering something.

code:
of=file write file instead of stdout
if want recover data drive , don't want deal ton of used space in raw image, wonder if can use above option accomplish it. i'm thinking go file afterwords , eliminate zeros. take file , make image of (if that's possible).

i'm not sure if eliminating 'all' zeros wouldn't destroy data too. maybe part of data , need there. if that's case i'd need make distinction between zeros unused space , ones part of data?

can guy make image file that?

thoughts on this?

thanks.

way, there's reason (and one) want stick dd or other program standard in o/s. i'm trying avoid deal of download program or that. i'm looking use things based programs off of in first place.

thanks
