Issue with Downloading/Updating Flash Player
let me start out saying adobe's current process of downloading , installing flash player in word - sucks!
some specifics: xpsp3 ie8 firefox14 internet access dial-up. (yes, there still dial-up users out here. not can afford the 50 100 bucks month fios, xfinity, or whatever current flavor of broadband is being pushed telephone, cable, or satellite companies.)
so download 1 meg flash installer program http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.
let me i'm not enchanted these types of installers software vendors use because in experience more not - bomb. perfer download program's installation file right hard drive , install software without requiring online connection web. when run flash installer, guess - it bombs!
part way though install (alway @ 47%) gives me "download timeout" error; , when clck finish button opens browser window load http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/completion/aih/?exitcode=-1
i go try running flash installer program again, discover file gone! why adobe made decision have installer delete on failure, beyond me. stupid, stupid, stupid!
i'm forced start whole process on again going //get.adobe.com/flashplayer once more , download installer program again. (fool me once adobe; won't fool me twice! make copies of installer program , run instead of original file.)
anyway attempts installer program result in same failure. exit page install program opens in browser window has couple of links on it. follow 1 link takes me to: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html
so when page loads, scroll down following section, there "supposedly" "direct links" actual flash player program installation files.
progress bar hangs during download / unable connect server / unable download metafile
reason: flash player installer has trouble working in firewall proxy server environments.
workaround: download adobe flash player installer directly clicking 1 of following links.
flash player activex (internet explorer)
flash player plug-in (all other browsers
except .... when click on either 1 of these links, browser (and occurs in both ie , firefox) starts loading link server @ "download.macromedia.com", just waits ... , waits ... , waits more; until quite clear thing hanging there, waiting response server must either slowest 1 on net, or offline.
now after spending better part of 8 hours idiocy, have yet update versions of flash player on computer, , highly inscensed freaking mess. , way, isn't first time i've gone though this. has been bad of late, have come dread anytime need update adobe's flashplayers.
so here question: why doen't adobe post damn link ftp server damn program installation files stored? save helluva lot of grief!
i'm sorry you've had go through this. remember days when spent time on dial , empathize you. unfortunately, don't host flash player installers via ftp, 2 direct links should work. tried clicking both links in post , both downloaded me. please let me know if continue fail , can try , setup temporary alternative location download from.
