Thread: Install problem...

ok, i'm having run @ installing ubuntu on toshiba satellite p205 laptop dreaded intel gma 950 chipset. after research had brief moment of hope before crashing dust. here have far...

have usb drive loaded , ready go. working.

when boot usb in toshiba ubuntu screen, although green lines ( think space invaders ) rather old purple. pretty sure because linux struggles 950 chipset , displaying in lowest possible resolution. anyway....

can test memory , of happy stuff. usb drive works in regard.

when first attempted "try ubuntu" option hit brick wall. black screen. left on 30 minutes, nothing changed. black screen.

did research , found appeared helpful tip on thread. managed finagle way around menu ( no easy task menu has changed when thread written ), , able edit last line of boot menu "i915.modeset=0 xforcevesa" ( without quotes, of course ). seemed getting somewhere ubuntu started load in familiar purple screen , said "press key reboot". pressed key, rebooted, , got... black screen. after 90 seconds of black screen machine began protest loudly screeching sounded alarm clock speakers. aside endless digital alarm there nothing. black screen.

able install onto hard drive of machine , work through kinks there, need @ least able see happening. there's not chance of working through problems black screen. drive formatted ext4, don't have or want windows partition. it's ubuntu or nothing machine. can offer advice @ on how move forward this? guess next step once again boot usb, enter switch versa, , time, rather try ubuntu install hard disk while can. @ least way should able grub menu when try boot. makes sense? or way off mark?

edited add question: asked in thread perhaps bears asking here. easier install hard drive machine in enclosure , install ubuntu current ubuntu machine? concern doing install settings specific machine ( compaq presario ) rather toshiba satellite drive's home should working.

wow. 61 views , not single idea? must screwed here....
