Thread: iptable rules for ftp server
hey guys, have few questions people better @ using iptables am. set ftp server in house running dyndns service can outside. called isp in setting router forward port 21 outside box, , in short had problems. long story short, ended bypassing router itself, , line running box own fixed external ip. naturally want pretty darn iptables setup this. box runs proftpd , far iptables accepts local loopback , port-21. (i left port 80 closed purpose standalone ftp server) know there must safer rule port 21, right wide open. have ideas on how make bit safer? command fine of linux machines im connecting outside too? guys! nmxdaven
due insecurity of ftp, i'd suggest using sftp instead, thing need install openssh-server, set private/public keys access instead of using password. there howto here.
can use nautilus, filezilla, or many other ftp clients support sftp. if want acces server using windows, have @ winscp, it's free.
