Thread: Processes listening to ports - ipv4 | ipv6 only ?

here's situation. i'm running native dual-stack (ipv4 & ipv6) dsl connection.
so, i've been adding firewall rules, cleaning unwanted processes, etc tighten security.

i'm left 3 processes listening ports. mysql, ipp & ssh.
still not quite sure need mysql. run amarok without using database, don't use sql i'm aware of.
anyway, question is;
possible make any of these processes listen ipv4 or ipv6 ???
there distinction there @ all?

example- ssh listening port 22 on both tcp & tcp6. ssh connections using 'ssh -6', so, can make ssh listen tcp6 only, or ignore tcp ?

in general, yes, can make server processes ipv4 or ipv6 or both. ssh can controlled either command line (-4, -6 options) or in /etc/ssh/sshd_config addressfamily option. since contemporary ubuntu little confused whether running sshd old-style sysv init job or new-style upstart job, i'd recommend modifying sshd_config. address family options bsd style, namely "inet" v4, "inet6" v6, or "any" both. e.g. listen v6 put in:
code:
addressfamily inet6
ssh tcp-based protocol, going have commit @ least 1 of if want use @ all.

other 2 left exercise reader man pages server daemon , config file (e.g. sshd, sshd_config) explain options are.
