Thread: Building robots

i this, , browsing through google cant find lot of things largely unrelated, or perhaps thats meant young kids (such toy robots require basic assembly)

want know is, kind of information should research this? have decent understanding of programming languages(taking ai, algorithms & data structures classes semester), , though havent taken calculus yet im pretty decent @ math.

start relatively small, want have understanding of im doing @ given moment

can guys recommend books , other things should into? im not asking how build asimo or anything, fundamentals

dont stingy recommendations, fascinates me , im willing dive in real deep.

i'd microcontroller programming,
think avr atmel nice
architecture, programmable c and/or asm.
gcc avr other neccesary linux
tools available.

need programmer, suitable power
source , breadboard etc. not
difficult set though.

if want more beginner friendly
there arduino, avr based,
comes on board usb , power regulator
, ide, don't think work on
c/asm level though, although could
reprogram normal way other avr.
have not tried many seem it.

guess depends on if want work
on application or kernel level

should hang of controlling
stuff digital signals, eg transistors as
switches, how control or build h bridges
etc. controlling standard hobby servo an
easy start, once hang of basic
programmimng microcontroller choose.
