Thread: Hd warning... then can't boot into Ubuntu

using 11.04 recent install in 100gb partition dual boot w/ windows 7.

after installing vlc (videolan http://www.videolan.org/vlc/#download)i began receive system reports problems hard drive. hdd new samsung spinpoint f3 hd103sj 1tb.

tried more information called "smart" capability. found nothing on samsung's website. (i used link newegg.) not knowing else opened disk management in win7.

c: partition has following status:
healty(boot, page file, crash dump. primary partition)

ubuntu partition has status:
healthy (primary partition) 100% free.
either win7's disk management doesn't read usage because of file system ubuntu uses or partition got hosed.

when trying reboot ubuntu i'm offered self repair option still can't boot. after posting i'm going try reboot.

hurts i'm using password manager in both of dual boot oss , may have couple passwords in ubuntu os file that's not in win7 file.

there way safely retrieve files /home folder.
don't think have separate /home partition used default install config. dm reports 4 partitions i'm guessing 4gb swap. won't again.

should go here?

hi,

ubuntu start in recovery mode? if so, maybe can use fsck utility see if can correct errors, other options third party softwares check hdd integrity... prefer spinrite job.

see ya...
