Thread: open ports?

i having issue attempting set dedicated server source games (tf2, cs:s, l4d2). required port (27015), along others, appears closed rest of world , upon port scan dmz hosting on (therefore no router interference between internet , computer) few ports open (80, 139, 443, 445). isp not block ports therefore issue can find computer running ubuntu 11.04. have ensured traffic allowed via iptables , can't think of else have ports closed. given.

two suggestions off top of head.

first scanning right external ip address? if second comes play.

right system in dmz?

ports listed default are

80 - http/www server
135 - msrpc
139 & 445 netbios

should not seeing ports 135,139 , , 445 on ubuntu machine. suspicion you're scanning windows machine.

if have multiple systems on network make sure correct system in dmz (ie: ubuntu server)

oh yeah else need keep in mind. if scanning ubuntu machine inside network need scan local ip. if scan external ip address behind nat router, network address translation make results bogus. when connecting own game server must use local ip. magic of nat.

make sure testing purposes disable ufw ensure application serving binding port. once have connectivity way punch hole in ufw game server turn ufw on , rock out.
