Is Word about to edit PDFs?
"in addition providing updated support open xml , odf standards, new office adds exciting new features around pdf files well. release, microsoft introduces option, call pdf reflow, open pdf files editable office documents."
exciting? uh, let's "perhaps".
on 1 hand, adobe never claimed pdf file format meant, or suitable, editing. it's *end product*, despite odd confused end-user believing "if can create should able edit it". reason target indesign "it should able edit pdfs!!" (a similar argument since id both can import , export png images, should able edit them well.)
on other hand: maybe *because* adobe believes in policy, never produced "pdf editor" of own, , hence array of others' utilities , tools that, ranging "extracting mages" (it used acrobat feature, not anymore in x is--besides, never worked monochrome bitmaps!) high end professional software such enfocus pitstop. not forget recosoft's pdftoid.
so seems there demand.
yes, able reliably copy formatted text out of pdf. yes, nice clean illustration every , then, without going through crutch-and-sellotape construction called "edit object".
but no: don't believe second it's possible edit pdf, copy text, change font. there legacy constructions in pdf allow in current structure. re-writing pdf standard allow pretty major undertaking, comparable (and demanding) creating total new file format. in fact out of question, since pdf format as-is has been frozen since became iso standard. besides, enhanced format work new files, , old pdfs still not magically editable.
so, 1 has ask: makes microsoft think can pull off? personal best guess can't, in repeatable , reliable way, (yes: *any*) pdf. jus' maybe ones created own software; , possibly on pdfs created magical new version of office begin with!
(it leads lots of follow-up question anyway. *can* do? create pdf out of excel, edit text word, re-open in excel adjust calculations?)
jongware, @ bottom of page linked says:
“with functionality, can transform pdfs editable word documents, rehydrating headings, bulleted/numbered lists, tables, footnotes, etc. analyzing contents of pdf file.” goal not make word pdf reader or pdf editor. goal bring contents of pdf files editable format using word 2013.
it sounds using pdf word convert extract elements , placing them in new word doc people can edit them , then, assume, make new pdf.
has used pdf word converter?
i'm assuming work best rather simple pdfs. of course can forward black text being converted rich black text have correct before sending print. shudder think else might changed pdf elements this" workflow".
and comments secretaries "what mean, can't edit pdf? can edit in ms word!" grrr...
