Thread: HDD disappearing and inaccessible after mounting

hello. have been fiddling resolve problem biggest part of day. totality of personal files inaccessible me right now, , causes inconvenience me right now, of files work related.

problem that, under fresh installation of ubuntu 11.04, have reinstalled several times already, ext4 partition want access disappears places > computer once mounted or opened. hard-disk icon disappears.

make reappear, have go "disk utility," , unmount there. there, "check filesystem" button reports no problem, though.

have tried browsing mount point, @ /media/storage, tells me upon opening "the folder contents not displayed," , "you not have permissions necessary view contents of "storage."

had same problem today, not copy files on data partition, figured out have been because residing inside extended partition, , moved out of there non-extended, standalone partition. then, have reinstalled ubuntu, , made necessary updates through "update manager," nothing works.

has been days since have switched linux, , serious problem have encountered. have googled way around day, no avail.

staying tuned here if has suggestions @ all. have no way tell right because have no disk space upon create partitions, upon creating said (data) partition using "disk utility" earlier had left "ownership" mention ticked default. think said ownership, or similar. have let ticked on, know.

hi, part of problem ownership issue. can run command in terminal while drive mounted ownership read , write previlages.
