Thread: Is the Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz CPU sufficient for me?
i think buy terra hd zareason. price limit of $700 can model 2 gb ram, 80 gb solid state drive, , 8 hours of battery life.
concern mother-in-law has hp mini 110, has newer intel atom n455 processor -- , netbook slow molasses.
realize windows 7 starter resource hog. not have solid state drive. (perhaps has accidentally acquired spyware or too, although doubt since husband quite computer savvy , uses netbook.) still worried.
but folks atom n450 1.66 ghz cpu confirm acceptably fast using linux interface, file copying, text editing, ftp, text web page browsing, avi playback, , skype?
please include if using ubuntu 11.04, older ubuntu, or flavor of linux. thanks!
hello, using lenovo s10-3t (2gb ram) with
and find performance quite good, better "acceptable". pre-installed windows 7 home basic quite sluggish, ubuntu responsive , smooth.code:sat jun 25 @12:43:16:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep -i name model name : intel(r) atom(tm) cpu n450 @ 1.66ghz model name : intel(r) atom(tm) cpu n450 @ 1.66ghz
i'm using ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, , works fine, including video playback, flash, skype , light gaming.
built desktop chip (though 1gb ram), , installed ubuntu 11.04 on that. unity2d (unity/3d didn't run) huge drag, , interface feels sluggish, programs perform well.
assume enough day-to-day needs, try have atleast 2gb ram. graphics card (instead of onboard) should make zippy, if feel performance not enough.
bottom line: i'm happy it's performance, assume need atleast 2gb of ram "modern" operating systems. mine "conventional" sata hdd, ssd, should fly day-to-day work.
