Thread: NVidia driver problems

hi,

new here please go easy. trying opengl running on ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit). hardware dell box nvidia quadro 600 graphics card; running under vmware.

tried using "apt-get install nvidia-current", followed "nvidia-xconfig", told me new xorg.conf file had been written. rebooted. dialog appeared saying ubuntu running in low-graphics mode , had failed load module "nvidia" , no drivers available.

didn't seem far way, tried downloading nvidia 64 bit linux driver version 275.09.07 , ran console. firstly told me not appear have nvidia gpu supported version of driver (yet nvidia's description of driver says support gpu). went ahead , let try build kernel module failed message "failed load kernel module 'nvidia.ko"

i'm not clear how proceed on one. has else got quadro 600 card work? if so, how?

advice in advance!

if you're running under vmware, guest os doesn't direct access graphics card. instead need install driver vmware graphics, should package xserver-xorg-video-vmware.

code:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-vmware
