2+ year old votes removal – consequences? - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
i had concerns 2+ years old vote removal call “the purge”.
i wrote concerns in few forum posts used “careful” in criticizing.
i didn’t want badmouth before having results.
the purge remains until 3 months now. consequences?
jed’s aim.
the jed team has started changing things highly necessary matters. e.g. removal of silent votes.
as jed intended people want find appropriate extensions projects , users have opportunity of voting extensions correct conclusion best rated extension of category shall ranked @ first place followed lower rated extensions.
certainly not mean highest ranked extension meets taste of users gives clear hint quality.
about ratings , numbers.
two extensions! both have average rating of 4.83 . 1 has 400 votes other has 10.
if looking extension i’d decide first testing 1 400 votes.
and why?
because of law of large numbers!
if reduce number of votes average differs more , more form expected value!
the purge counterproductive community of users want see valuable extensions ranked first.
thereby doesn’t matter if votes “outdated” or don’t reflect current state.
someone came conclusion extension useful or not , commented opinion quality of extension rating , review.
actually unfair user skip opinion quality of extension.
the greater number of votes, more average rating reflects real (expected) quality.
this not fortunetelling pure math , stochastic.
future prospects.
as there more 10k extensions on jed became harder achieve reviews used be. established extensions impossible 5 votes per month. ones can happy if getting 2-3 reviews each month.
if new “system” comes , first , last 2% don’t count, plus 2+ years old votes skipped , older votes won’t count same new votes jed come point of being useless.
the point when big part of extensions fall under 5 vote’s threshold or handful of votes determining quality of extension.
my conclusion:
if going through jed see many developers stopped caring extensions.
if talking developers hear complaints have lost 50% of votes.
some of them 80%. hear voice of being not satisfied, unhappy or de-motivated.
i see fraudulent actions rising because whales got small fishes , piranhas see chance. etc.
it promising approach must sadly imho purge wasn’t idea.
i didn’t want use word “failure” - de-motivating jed members work appreciate , think despite decision doing great job.

all more reason reviewers have check list includes experience level. way users see review have 'gauge' measure value of review. level of reviewer's experience possibly built in formula add weight vote ?mad4joomla wrote:...
