How do I minimize mistakes?


hello all. new these forums. hope posting in right place. had job book. supposed 80 pages; ended being 134 pages. job came in late , needed done in short time (roughly less 2 weeks). there on 50 ads needed created well. total time spent on layout , design, on 160 hours (one person spent 140 plus hours). book goes bound, notice 6-7 mistakes. couple of them rather noticable. 1 pdf placed transparent background, should not have been. ground image can seen through parts of pdf supposed white. book proofed went along. customer did not catch mistakes , design/layout individual did not have time print out whole book before printing started or along way because of short deadline.

 

so of typed, how keep makeing mistakes, costly ones, when there no time print , review before printing starts? literally, layout first 40 pages, send off customer, edits, make edits, send customer again final proof, plate, print. while first 40 pages being printed, laying out next 40 pages, proofing, changing/editing ... , not way book should done! design/layout team (mainly me) looks not know quality or how job.

 

how insure abilities, true self gets shown in print, when have less 2 weeks deliver job, of things stated above, spend 140 plus hours of life make sure ships on time? without major mistake? remember, there virtually no time print out hard proof copy because press running needing more pages print , customer still making edits pages come!?!

 

please advise how i/we have ensured job mistake free.

unfortunately, largely answering own questions...

 

the job expanded original size, came in late, short turn around time, multiple ads create...

blame enough everyone, afraid...

 

in experience, client notorious supplying material late. persons planning job think can save or make time @ end. designers believe know production... have experienced in every job have had. (and being guilty party, too, on rare occasions.)

 

without asking ton of questions, first thought, mention proofing repeatedly, proofing , proofing?

 

most use soft proofing of pdf rather hard print out. fine copy , layout may not show transparency accurately. final aspects of job must include examining transparance, colour separation, alignment , proof reading spelling , grammer. (spell check helpful, not replace quality proofreader.) spelling counts.

 

in end, doing wrong never faster doing right. if find way make mistake free...let know...we build statue of you. welcome club, have t-shirts
