Thread: How do I make my Gnome 2.x panel completely opaque?

*fixed title: how make... translucent?

trying spiff ubuntu systems little bit messing panels , such, seems when in "ubuntu classic" mode, can not make entire panels opaque. parts of panels translucent, , rest still solid color.

can me here? thanks!

i fired gimp , made new image @ 1440 x 32 (screen width (my) panel height).
advanced options > fill > transparency. hit ok button.
file > save as...> , change drop-down item says "all files" "png image (*.png) , save , name ~/documents/transparent.png

next right mouse click on gnome-panel , select properties > background > background image , navigate , select ~/documents/transparent.png

note: theme switching may have done themes override panel transparency.
