Thread: Linux's biggest opportunity since Windows Vista
support windows xp ends in 2014. think biggest opportunity linux since windows vista introduced. remember hearing brand new computers couldn't handle vista. there comparisons windows me, inferior support, rampant instability, etc. if operating systems cars, windows vista 1980s cadillac infamous diesel engine.
bad reviews of vista spurred me switch linux. didn't want ever have buy windows again. i'm sure there many others out there switched windows linux around same time did. many more people switched mac instead.
because vista such fiasco, many people , businesses stuck windows xp, , many people windows vista "downgraded" xp. people , businesses have since switched windows 7, many others still using xp. windows 8 coming next year, , i'm sure heavier xp , possibly heavier windows 7. after all, windows 7 windows os lighter predecessor.
see 2014 opportunity linux win on windows users. think windows vista fiasco has changed old paradigm of regularly replacing computer. people , establishments still using windows xp (despite windows 7's success) cost-conscious , interested in alternative purchasing costly "upgrade" slows down computers or spending more money on replacements.
see 2014 opportunity lightweight linux distros. consider windows xp users top target market distro swift linux (http://www.swiftlinux.org). see doudou , zenix other lightweight up-and-coming lightweight distros debian side of universe. see plenty of room more lightweight distros. of top 10 distros on distrowatch, 7 heavyweight, 2 debian , arch linux (which aren't user-friendly), , puppy linux. in opinion, current linux market top-heavy - there lots of competition in upper part of market (ubuntu, mint, fedora, etc.) little in bottom portion.
well, luck us.
