Thread: no internet connection ubuntu 11.04

please help,

running ubuntu 11.04

can't internet connection working, here's happened:

computer wouldn't boot-up, replaced power-supply , bought new case.
put in new case, works fine, no internet, worked before.

i'm not using router, directly connected modem.

ifconfig shows hwaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00, called cable company got mac address modem, cable company
tells me working fine end, system isn't 'talking' modem.



edited /etc/network/interfaces shows:

pc/activity light on modem blinks, , looks ok still no internet.

no ip address, think maybe dhcp isn't giving me one: so:

is network manager running on computer?

if is, interfer manual methods making difficult connect.
