Thread: Ubuntu doesn't boot anymore after adding a boot flag to the Windows drive

i have ubuntu 10.10 installed on 1 (physical) hd , on other 1 windows. on both drives grub installed boot both operating systems. when wanted install sp1 win 7 had add bootable flag partition windows boots, otherwise installation of sp1 not work. did booting ubuntu , using gparted add flag. after doing update sp1 worked without problems.

when trying boot ubuntu grub complained couldn't find kernel anymore! tried boot ubuntu minimal cd , restore grub using chroot, update-grub , grub-install didn't work. still had problem unable boot ubuntu putting me in minimal system called initramfs. seems uuid of partitions changed. guess happened when added bootflag windows disk.

next thing tried tell grub not use uuid loading kernel uncommenting in /etc/default/grub. got kernel booting stops (i guess when trying mount root file system) saying concerning uuid not exist putting me initramfs again. strange thing there coulnd't manage mount root partition using /dev/sdb1 (on in case).

glad if there way restore system again without having reinstall it.

hi,
in situation, best thing can better overview of current state of system following:

boot ubuntu live cd/usb. choose option "try ubuntu without changes." once desktop loads come here , following:

1. download boot info script in zipped file. there link in signature.
2. once downloaded, move boot info script either copying or dragging , dropping zipped folder onto desktop , unzip contents using right-click extract here.
3. open folder , copy script desktop (you can drag , drop if like)
4. open terminal , run following command

code:
sudo bash ~/desktop/boot_info_script.sh
this create results.txt file on desktop. paste entire contents of file here in new post. once pasted highlight text , click # sign on toolbar place code tags around text.
