Thread: what to put where, imac, emac, g4, g3, heron, ibis, eh?

if can found elsewhere, please redirect me, i've searched bit already. have small challenge of maintaining fleet of computers @ small nonprofit farm school in appalachian mountains. of our hardware donated , old rocks, , run linux principles , finance. folks love drop old boxes in our laps , call generous, is, except try figure out tech. long backstory, understand problem.

not being mac-savvy, looking suggestions on best versions of ubuntu install on several different computers. ubuntu preferred distro because have lot of non-tech people (staff , students) confused difference between os , appearances box box. more can have things seem same, better everyone.

(1) imac g4, 800mhz, 512mb, 80g hd (tried 10.04, way slow.)
(1) imac g4, 1g, 512 mb, 80g hd (trying 10.04 now.)
(1) emac 2002 (can specs, if needed)
(1) emac 2003 (" " " ")
(2) imac g3 2000 (" " " ")

update 10.04 there
need minimum of 256 ram
check batteries (date , time) or replace them. linux needs accurate time. problems may arise, can found on forum. these ppc machines. no intel! so, need take advise these computers. perform posts search @ top of page.
