Thread: Installing applications on ubuntu?!

hello

have been trying install applications ubuntu while now, use software center that. know programs not available in software center , have added manually application list on natty ubuntu.

when download them , either in tar.gz or .deb or .rpm. can please tell me in details how can install them in ubuntu. 1 more question why wouldn't guys have executable program installation in windows?

tq

.tar.gz of time source code, should unpack , see if there readme file tells how compile or check on site.

.deb archive installing script (comparable exe on windows). can double click it. (if complaint not being executable, go file properties , mark executable).

.rpm same .deb, red hat based distros instead of debian based ubuntu.

don't use because apt system used software center lot better. programs depend on each other , if install something, needed libraries come it. in windows, programmer has package libraries program. can result in same library being installed on system dozen times.

advantage automatically updated, software developer doesn't have spend precious time on developing update tool.

programs in software center or can installed via adding repository. can give me example of native linux program isn't available in usc or via repository?
