Thread: Laptop has 64-bit, what do I do?
a question-did try googling wallowing through mud, people debating pros , cons of 64bit.
i'm running people call junkheap of desktop, it's 7 years old. however, generous family member has said they'll buy me laptop, however, said laptop scarily marked "64bit". i'm not asking performance pros , cons, don't care, it'll faster regardless, a) ubuntu run reliably, , b) programs run on 64bit, i'm programming, it'll things code::blocks, graphics libraries, wine , sort of thing.
hope generous people can either point me thread, or provide answer.
i don't think there's right answer, more opinions. here's mine: if you're worried compatibility, use 32-bit. important components (kernel, libc6) i686-optimized (take advantage of sse2 , such). of tasks still see significant performance gains 64-bit virtualization, video encoding, , using programs take enormous amounts of ram (gimp).
