Thread: Ubuntu (Xubuntu) 11.04 - Remember Window Placement

hey guys, apologize if has been mentioned before tried searching , couldn't track down. found thread discussing gnome classic in ubuntu 11.04 not xubuntu.

installed ubuntu 11.04 , decided unity wasn't me (not hating on it, it's young i'm sure they'll improve it). thought i'd happy using gnome classic there few quirks pushed me away. didn't remember window locations. having apps launch in top left corner makes me waste lot of time moving them around.

installed xubuntu. i'd used xubuntu years ago figured i'd use it. installed using "apt-get install xubuntu-desktop". went well.

in xubuntu window placements aren't remembered ... sigh ... there anywhere set in xubuntu? i've searched can't find it.

according faq (http://wiki.xfce.org/faq - section: "is possible have windows remember position"), answer no.

however, can use tools wmctrl (http://tomas.styblo.name/wmctrl/) , devilspie (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/devilspie) accomplish this.
