Thread: Why is it still so important to have a Qt/GTK-only set of applications installed?
i used understand problem, since integration of gtk , qt applications in either main environment (gnome , kde) huge issue. qgtkstyle , oxygen-gtk (and dbus), seems both sides have case where, if not linux user before, scarcely notice difference between qt , gtk applications.
aside applications kopete, amarok, , empathy, have new features integrate directly primary de, seems of issues come down difference in opinion on application design, , downright dogmatism.
vlc , skype examples of qt applications people don't seem have issue installing in gtk-based environments, , gimp , inkscape popular on kde. firefox xul based , seems fine everyone, though have left desire. open/libre-office fit in category.
in mind, if have tendency not install qt or gtk applications on computer, why not? i'd sure know reason aside loyalism or disagreement on design ethics, there many gtk , qt applications don't have ties gnome or kde, or higs.
i'm merely curious, since feel i've missed huge, obvious issue preventing people using 2 toolkits. unity 2d example of reason why don't understand necessity separate them. still see lot of users saying "i won't install because it's qt/gtk application."
i run both qt & gtk app's on arch/openbox/xfce4-panel box(s). openbox uses gtk, though after enlarged fonts on qt app's don't see them as, or think of them being different gtk, great.
