Thread: Windows XP over writes Windows 7 Grub 2 Boot entry after sudo update-grub.

this problem. grub 2 replaced boot entry windows 7 when installed windows xp. tried create own menu entry windows xp
seamed me superseded windows 7 boot loader.

hi everyone,

have brand new desktop pc - core i7 processor, 2 tb hard drive, 6 gb ram.

problem: don't know how bring menu entry on written / superseded os being detected update-grub; in case windows 7. installed ubuntu 11.04 @ end of many other linux os's. multi-boot setup.

windows xp has replaced windows 7 boot entry in grub 2 boot menu after running update-grub.

windows 7 booted off windows 7 install dvd , used boot repair option.

changed working windows xp boot loader boot windows 7 wanted there catch.
--> windows xp didn't boot more because replaced / superseded.


linux os's boot fine.

do have both windows in primary partitions?

issue windows not grub. windows can boot primary partition boot flag. if add additional windows literally moves boot & boot files of second install first 1 boot flag. grub sees 1 windows install second has no boot files boot.

each ms have own boot loader make second primary partition , set boot flag on, install 2nd product in it. multibooters, pictures here worth 1000+ words (vista & 7 same):

v60 has improved formating , requires code tags make legible. new version zip file have extract .sh run.
