How to monitor source of links - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
i'm trying find way monitor effectiveness of promotional activities on different sites and emails.
i've been looking @ different options here on forums: , without plug-ins, google referrer stats, etc... can't find complete job.
basically, i'm seeing 2 approaches this:
the first option no can't control links coming in emails. leaves me second option.
initially, thought of creating alias menu items, 1 each link source. tested 1 alias, works fine, realised there no hit counter on menu items. that's out.
my next option create article page each link source. each article page redirect home page. solution links originating emails. there hit counter articles, fine, can't find way redirect without installing 1 of many redirect plug-ins installed. i've seen powerful ones, seem complicated want do. , of simpler ones have bad ratings and/or comments, or no ratings or comments @ all.
right now, i'm in process of testing redj. redirecting correctly, landing page not registering hits, destination page (homepage) is.
can recommend 1 simple task? important thing here landing page registers hit before redirecting.
i'm open other suggestions job.

for interested, redj did trick. although it's powerful plug-in, straightforward configure.
the solution quite simple:
whenever user clicks on link you've created somewhere, he/she taken corresponding landing page, thereby registering came from. redirection instantaneous, process transparent user, , see page have been redirected to, in case homepage.
so keep things organized, created category titled "landing pages" group mentioned articles in 1 place.
you won't see hits on articles because of redirections, redj gives information, , provides purging data.
