Thread: 11.04 x64 - Dell D820 - Nvidia - Compiz won't run

sorry if wrong forum. first post. i'm pretty new ubuntu, used previous version , had compiz working fine. 11.04, many people, i'm having issues.

i'm running dell latitude d820 , fresh / clean install of ubuntu 11.04 x64.
graphics card detected nvidia corporation g72m [quadro nvs 110m/geforce go 7300] (it's nvs 110m - go non-oem version believe). i'm running recommended drivers additional drivers dialog.

have tried running compiz --replace , unity --reset, both hang laptop.

i'm not sure other information need provide, please let me know.

1 more thing. when run compiz --replace, freezes on "starting unity-window-decorator"

note, dump "ubuntu classic"; similar if run in unity mode, profile says unity.


should looks unity load, hang display after. example, i'll see drop shadows on windows, cursor change if i'm hovering on window border or something, nothing on ui update. can manage click on terminal shortcut , type 'sudo reboot' , reboot, it's gui that's crashing.

hi in signature says reset unity , compiz, reset unity , compiz fix up.

after have finished guide , change other settings mess windows again log out , in , fixed. if stay ubuntu classic should @ link.
