Thread: GParted has renamed my MD Devices
i running test installation of ubuntu 10.04 server on virtual machine (vbox specifically) in order practice recovering raid problems. when initialy created raid arrays created md device named "md0" ext4 file system , "/" mount point. other raid array called "md1" , used swap.
when loading gparted off of bootable disk noticed devices changed md0 , md1 md127 , md126. shut down vm , on reboot grub rescue shows saying disk can not found , using "ls" lists md devices appeared in gparted (md127 , md126).
rebuilt os via importing backup appliance , repeated same thing. boot ubuntu, success, sudo shutdown, boot gparted, note md device name change, shutdown, boot ubuntu, grub rescue.
there anyway stop happening(in event gparted must used on physical machine). or way revert problem after gparted messes system up?
edit: talked 1 individual suggested changing md device names md 127 , md126, looking more robust solution taking shot in dark gparted set same names on other systems. (particularly physical ones).
i've never experienced renaming of block devices (mdadm devices included) via live gparted cd. shouldn't effect them unless you've performed actions on them, , if did perform action, still wouldn't effect naming of arrays, given array line in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file (wouldn't touched gparted).
i'll try out in virtualbox later tonight.
