Thread: Thinkpad R400 freezing
i've got lenovo thinkpad r400 bought in october 2009. came windows 7, , did dual boot ubuntu 10.04 while later. worked great , had no problems. once 11.04 came out did clean install of , set separate home folder partition. had major issues laptop freezing, downgraded 10.10, bit better. after doing more fiddling did clean install (copying home folder external hard drive) using whole hard drive 11.04, run in ubuntu classic (but plan on switching gnome3 sooner or later). whole computer freeze, unstick after bit, doesn't , hold down power button restart. doesn't seem matter programs i'm running, happens if have open 1 pdf or firefox window. seem somehow related using mouse (i use trackpoint nipple mouse thingy, turned on touchpad 1 time try out , it's bad); if starts freezing , unfreezing, it's better if use keyboard.
strange thing me has persisted through reformatting hard drive, imagine must hardware or firmware problem. need driver update or something? how can update lenovo drivers if don't use windows anymore?
here's hardware data:
intel core 2 duo processor p8600 2.40ghz fsb : 1066mhz cache : 3mbl2
3 gb pc3-8500 ddr3 sdram 1067mhz sodimm memory (2 dimm) (i think)
intel graphics media accelerator 4500mhd w/ 1394
160 gb hard disk drive, 5400rpm
keyboard , mouse standard thinkpad ones of course
in advance help!
