I am confused about chapter numbers and ToC
hello indesign users,
my apologies posting question here obvious answer, have been searching hours, reading manual, watching videos , have not come close solution.
i trying out indesign, deciding of going use book project (which contains lot of graphics, diagrams precise)
i have single document turn book of around 200 pages. want simple: want 'chapters' , 'sections' in book. , want table of contents. , want use numbers in footers/headers. must possible, keep getting stuck results not want.
i not looking splitting book project multiple indd documents , collecting these in indesign book document. gives me lot of complexity of linking these different documents not need. looking internally structure document.
i have tried create 2 paragraph styles ("heading 1" , "heading 2"). have made these styles numbered. problem one, cannot get
1. chapter name
text text text
1.1 section name
test text text
i tried using "chaptering" number , set level 2 "heading 2" style,
1. chapter name
text text text
1. section name
text text text
when having chapter introduction , numbering it. when create table of contents, can ry want, "heading 1" entry gets formatted in main flow, while "heading 2" entry gets own toc style. double numbers, toc numbers , entry has number, like
contents
1. 1. introduction
i have serached around video or page.document shows need have hierarchically numbered 'chapters' in document, have been unable find it. can gove me link makes clear?
have seen document:

you should change "level" setting second level heading.
