Thread: HTPC/Digital audio problems
i built htpc using sandy bridge intel core i3, running 11.04. i'm using hdmi output both sound , video xbmc, , streaming video/audio machine via dlna/upnp machine on local network.
works fine, there's weird quirk: if i'm playing media has "digital" audio (i.e. 5.1 surround sources, e.g. dts, dd, ac3 etc.) have switch "analogue 5.1 surround" output option in pulse in order sound. if, however, i'm playing has stereo sound (e.g. mp3, or movie has stereo sound) have switch "hdmi digital stereo" option in pulse in order sound.
isn't ideal (i want point i'm exclusively running xbmc, let alone fiddling around audio settings in linux every other file) , have no idea why should have make these switches in first place. ideas?
you have resolved issue now, in interests of helping others same setup, here settings worked me (on identical hardware):
in xbmc audio settings, set output mode optical/coax. speakers set 5.1. set custom audio device , enter 'hdmi' (without quotes). same passthrough device - set custom , enter hdmi. works audio source i've been able test (stereo pcm, dts, dd5.1 etc etc).
edit: should add don't touch pulseaudio's settings @ all. in fact pa not recognise have hdmi audio output available.
