Thread: Various Questions - Kiosk Set-up

hello community,

i'm opening thread after doing quite searching , not light heart
a bit me: i'm not entirely pc illiterate , have been using linux couple of years basic netbook needs. can follow documentation , if providing answer dificult, pointer relevant section suffice me.

what want achieve: i'm making edubuntu-based kind of "activity kiosk" little boy of 2. i've seen on kids corners' in several places , want make kiosk running gcompris grows i'll adding more options. here's give idea http://www.protouchblog.co.uk/tag/interactive-kiosks/

my questions/problems far:

  1. how customize profile showing programs want , not entire program list available. (i've made restricted account little 1 , need able run gcompris , nothing else @ all; not volume controls).
  2. as kiosk run headless (there's touchscreen activities) running teamviewer remote access winbox (lame, know spare me now). have startup program want run minimized , not visible on panel anywhere (that trivial in kubuntu, not quite in edubuntu). there way make run "silently" or "as service" we'd in win-world?
  3. if has experience administering gcompris i'd love pm gcompris fora bit quiet.

i'm sure i'm working through set-up i'll more questions, reserve right update post more queries

system:

  • dell optiplex g620 (p4@3.80, yes still exist)
  • hp 2310ti touschscreen monitor
  • edubuntu 11.04 (almost virgin, installed week ago)

1. edit programs lists go system > preferences > main menu, , uncheck programs want hide. remove volume controls , other panel items, right click items on panel , click "remove panel".

2. have absolutely no experience teamviewer, many programs support being launched
code:
-d
option runs them in background daemon. however, teamviewer may or may not support option.
