1st Hacked Site - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

after years of working joomla, got email client hired me content updates stating wrong site. looks hacked. doesn't matter template set default, site shows large "joomla" graphic , top , list of articles. hadn't worked on site few weeks noticed today 14mb .tar file looks suspicious , uploaded on 12/31. i'm in midst of walking through "read first" items wanted post fpa results in case spots easy it. version 2.5.8 updated 11/8/2012.

thanks in advance clues or help.

update: checked extensions , none matched list. copied list of extensions vulnerable list excel , removed numbers sorted alpha copied extensions list, made text red, , sorted again. no red standouts.

update: i've never seen before in looking through errors logs saw recent activity on wp directory on server. wp version 2 years old. has seen old wp installation compromise joomla install before??
