How to reconnect mySQL with new Joomla installation? - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i had use "system restore" on dell notebook past week. didn't lose files, had re-install wamp , joomla.

i had installed , started using wamp , joomla few days before restore, , had not created database backup. however, of database files -- entire original wamp folder including bin , www directories -- saved, , created copy of before reinstalling wamp , joomla. can access joomla directory in bin/mysql/mysql5.5.24/data, don't know how access thorugh phpmyadmin -- import function asks 1 file -- , joomla directory contains multiple frm files.

i lost 1 day's work, if possible, i'd reconnect old datbase don't have start on scratch. i'm new using mysql, advice appreciated.

to you, in future, find correct forum topic please read which forum post question have put together.

just clarify:
  • you have copy of wamp/www/ , subdirectories
  • you have copy of wamp/bin/mysql/mysql_version/data/ directory , datafiles joomla installation
  • you have reinstalled new version of wampserver2 restored pc

  1. the www/joomla_site files , directories have can copied , pasted the new wamp/www/ directory not problem.
  2. for safeties sake move current data/ directory out of new installation desktop until know transfer going work. rather delete or overwrite it.
  3. you might able copy whole data/ directory , replace 1 in wamp/bin/mysql/mysql_version/data/ directory in new installation provided mysql versions same in new installation in old, otherwise might have problems. there no guarantee work though there may configuration coding has been picked 1 installation of ws2 not know how controlled if there is.
  4. also make sure restart apache , mysql after making changes.

note:
the reason there may issue , uncertainty files maintained in .frm file type along various other configuration , listing files in data/ , data/database_name/ structure. file type cannot imported new database. there no guarantees procedure!! :)
