Thread: 10.04: GDM resolution is too large
when boot 10.4 laptop find resolution of login screen large. 50 percent of time, portion of screen type in password off screen , forced reboot. other 50% of time "get lucky" , have useful portion of screen space available. once login screen works fine. how control gdm resolution behavior?
in case matters, laptop acer travelmate 6493.
comments or suggestions.
laptop uses intel® graphics media accelerator 4500mhd video...
first run command terminal:
if says can't find command, intsall viacode:sudo hwinfo --monitor
note resolution want try...code:sudo apt-get install hwinfo
edit /ect/grub/default , line says
remove comment mark (#) , change resolution picked. examplecode:# gfxmode=640x480
after saving, have runcode:gfxmode=1280x1024
to pick change.code:sudo update-grub
change resolution of grub menu , boot messages... passing on resolution linux kernel boot into...
now, go /etc/x11/xorg.conf , edit it. > go screen section > dsiplay section > add entry in green (virtual) resolution want gdm when boots....
save. should take care of gdm resolution. after gdm login, default display resolution specified in xorg.conf file take on there.code:section "screen indentifier "name' device "devid" monitor "monid" subsection "display" virtual 1260 1024 endsubsection endsection
