Thread: Connecting to NAS
having become frustrated many bugs in 11.04 have stepped backward , instead installed ubuntu 10.10 onto dell laptop. until have been pleased, has worked well, straight out of box. so, thought home , dry have noticed cannot see synology nas drive on network. doubly frustrating because other pc, running 10.10, has lost it's ability see nas drive too. throughout last week used nas in conjunction ubuntu pc without hitch it's gone. nas visible both windows , macs it's ubuntu machines cannot use it. vaguely annoying knowing nas uses linux os or maybe clue what's wrong.
things stand apple macs can see each other, see windows box, see nas , see shared folders on ubuntu machines. windows machines see macs, each other, nas , linux shared folders. ubuntu machines see apple mac shares, no windows , no other ubuntu shared folder nor nas.
curious because little program avahi 0 conf browser can see absolutely on network yet ubuntu gui proving difficult thing network using other than web browser. there concise definitive reason why linux (ubuntu) infernally difficult network? not experienced linux or terminal hoping system might have become little more user friendly ordinary people.
there have been in recent os update has killed off pc running ubuntu's ability see nas there has been no problem.
thanks, chazzer
since writing first piece re nas problem i've discovered can use go>location> in nautilus, enter smb://address drive , mount. best can hope for? ubuntu expect me first obtain local ip address , type nautilus mount network disk? doesn't add shares should automatically display in network folder while others not.
