Thread: HDD order changing if USB hard drive in use.
apologies if has been posted before every search try returns hits on "failing boot usb device".
dist-upgraded 11.04 10.10. never had trouble in maverick trying figure why has started happening in natty.
during normal operation, main hard disk sda, /backup sdb. if reboot external drive plugged in , turned on, external becomes sda, sda becomes sdb , sdb becomes sdc.
when happens tells me cant find /home , hit m drop maintenance shell. when first happened reaction wtf? checked out fstab , mtab see going on , saw reordering had occurred.
else had this? removing external , restarting fixes problem, imo shouldn't occurring in first place (same goes natty's bluetooth regression - mean, had these problems in 8.10, had been fixed - until 11.04...)
i'll try reproduce more definite picture, (at work @ moment kill again when home) i'm sure / mounts /home doesn't , they're on same device.
the possibility of change of device name in modern hardware reason today, uuids used reference partitions. replace device names in /etc/fstab uuid references.
