Thread: Installing mplayer2 || Natty
hi,
lately facing issues playing videos on mplayer.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30630174/mplayer%20error.txt
want try mplayer2 & see if solves issue.
have downloaded mplayer2-build-2.0.tar.bz2 http://www.mplayer2.org/
need in installing it.
hi,
can mplayer2 using ppa
https://launchpad.net/~ripps818/+archive/coreavc
says mplayer mplayer2, don't need worry coreavc, if don't want it, don't install dishowserver, mplayer2 has nothing it.
alternatively, can build yourself.
this create mplayer2 executable in bin folder in home directory. way can keep both mplayer , mplayer2 (in smplayer there option choose mplayer backend)code:$ sudo apt-get install libdvdread4 libdvdnav-dev libdvdread-dev && \ sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh $ sudo apt-get build-dep mplayer $ sudo apt-get install build-essential subversion git-core yasm autoconf libtool $ git clone git://git.mplayer2.org/mplayer2-build.git $ cd mplayer2-build && ./enable-mt && ./init $ echo --prefix=$home >> ./mplayer_options $ make -j4 $ make install $ mv $home/bin/mplayer $home/bin/mplayer2
using method because mplayer2 while in general better mplayer has problem streaming videos online (divx in particular seems) because there conflict between how gnome-mplayer , mplayer2 handle pausing , restarting. use mplayer gecko-mediaplayer (gnome-mplayer) streaming mplayer2 watching local material , dvds (the first line of code adds dvd playing function mplayer2, dev has removed)
have been getting lot of useful advice andrew.46 on thread.
