Understanding File and Directory Ownship ...optimal install? - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i creating brand new joomla install , trying understand best way install , administer site optimal file , directory ownership. installing latest package of 2.5.8 on virtual cloud server root access using eapps hosting centos 6 , isp manager. setup domain , server administration, create myself user in isp manager root login , call new user myadmin. can install joomla root or myadmin user, , either ftp or wget in ssh. way, have tried of these options better understand differences in setup.

i decide install wget in ssh logged in myadmin in website root. goes , create joomla administration login called jadmin. check directory , file ownership , permissions @ point , owned myadmin 755 (directories) , 644 (file) permissions. log joomla admin area jadmin login , go install few extensions need. while trying install extensions, errors.

this start thinking ... jadmin user can not install extensions because not have permission write directories ... owned myadmin. still want extensions installed log ssh myadmin , change directory permissions recursive 777, go joomla admin area jadmin, install extensions no problem, go ssh myadmin , change directory permissions recursive 755.

the site looks , running fine. check ownership , extension files installed jadmin login in joomla admin area owned apache (which pretty sure means root user). core joomla directories/files owned myadmin , extension directories/files owned root.

i go joomla admin area jadmin , try make changes ... add new directory in media manager or upload file, , don't have permission make changes.

so here question ... best way set ownership consistant , works without issues? guessing files should owned apache , thus, when log joomla admin jadmin user, jadmin own files , have permission edit/add needed. if case, assume need original install in ssh logged in root user. if have read far ... thanks! hope clear enough , can clarify best, comprehensive approach installation file ownership not issue.

shouldn't folders owned www-data?
