Thread: Grub failure after upgrading in Ubuntu Server 10.10
i have done insane amount of googling before posting , it's difficult thing i've faced far.
basic problem simple, upgraded boot loader using apt-get upgrade. grub upgraded , believe automatically ran upgrade-grub-from-legacy executable. confused on selected drives. when did that, received bunch of messages, write non-redundant ones:
mdadm group disk not found (many times, on 20 or so)
installation finished, no errors reported (4 times, guess 4 hard drives)
found linux image vmlinux ...
found initrd image ...
next, reboot, , absolutely nothing, not grub prompt!! tried following:
1) grub-install /dev/sda1
2) super grub disk
3) ubuntu server installation cd in rescue mode trying, infamous red error screen when trying install grub
nothing worked! partitions there , can see them , mount them rescue cd, cannot boot system, help!
partitions layout:
1 lvm sitting on 2 raid-1 drives sitting on 4 hard drives sda, sdb, sdc, sdd
1 root partition /dev/md2 in raid-1 drive sitting on 2 of 4 drives (sda2 , sdb2)
4 bios_grub partitions sda1, sdb1, sdc1 , sdd1 each ~1mb
2 swap partitions on 2 raid drives
give more detail think problem in bootloader configuration because can access partitions including lvm , raids rescue cd.
thank can provide!!
bump!
