Thread: How can I control what apps can and cannot connect to internet?

using lsof noticed everytime open apps (like rhythmbox or banshee) connects internet on ports 80 , 443. i'm doing though surveying music collection. why connecting internet this? don't have podcasts or album covers or of stuff set. in fact turned stuff off.

problem bandwidth on mobile broadband plan. don't want apps connecting when don't need them to.

played around ufw appears allow port configuration. can't see how control connections of applications. can't block ports 80 , 443 because i'd shut down web browser. how linux users control internet connections of installed applications?

major issue me because i'm concerned going eat broadband allotment unnecessarily.

anyone?
