We've updated computers at the radio station...now missing an 'important' FX feature query

good morning fellow users,

we've updated our computers @ 6 radio stations work for...all 6 production rooms , studios (for not using voxpro, myself included:)) newer, core 'i' machines old school pentium 4s had on last let (yet ran audition 3.x) fine. newer machines nice. they're signifcantly quicker chewing through mp3s, conversion betweeen , different formats...but obviously, it's older softare isn't able take advantage of 64bit or multiple cores...so other having more reliable, speedier version...until can convince 'suits' need bump latest version, we'll using said 3.x

that said, 1 of main features we've been unable figure out how our defaut 'edit' screen little volume knob pops while segment of audio selected. ie, you've clicked , dragged portion of existing audio in edit screen 'turn white'. in little area above selected audio file, in 'white/selected' area....we (used to) have small volume icon allowed automatic amplifcation simple click , drag of mouse (either right or left volume 'up or down'). looks though engineer did re-image each machine corporate audition disc---however, it's showing audition 3.0 in "about audition" tab under help. isn't or wasn't there updated @ least 3.1 or 3.01?  wanted double check run 'new' audition on macs home business--and i'm enjoying it:)  however...3.x, imho 1 of, if not best wave editor...for it's time, in history of wave/simple editing , production on run. since syntrillium/cool edit days, i've used (since transitioning saw in mid 90's).  it's been bit tough acquainted mac version....i don't see update happening in 'corporate' radio time. took whole lotta time, effort, , bureaucratic bs new hardware. we'll go battle software in year's budget (not distributed til next year---likely 3rd or 4th quarter:))....so must make 3.x now.

lastly, we're gettin studder after quick edit. i'm cutting 30 second spot...4 or 5 seconds of dead handles, maybe slip in middle...total of 43 second sound file. cut front handle, left click dragging start, hit delete, hit space bar....studder, studder 2-3 seconds before works out. there cache setting i'm missing somewhere? if go , play beginning file fine. no issues. initial playback after edit. it's annoying not deal killer. gotten used to.

in radio, our jobs (and hats wear) have become more , more "life in production room" producing smaller markets, voice-tracking, commercial , audio produciton/voice over--again, smaller markets these days running 'jock-less'....audition has become number 1 tool in box. couple quirks i'd worked out rest of our air/prod staff. was, in fact, happy older machines---each of our 'workspaces' set liked. unfortunately, know how engineers work. new machines, pull old, re-image , send out email. ugghhhhh!  after 30 years in buz, miss when dealt rf , transmitters:)  fixed our own 'work-stations' writing out 3x5" index cards , bulk erasing carts, donuts (reels), , opening fresh, new vinyl labels:)

thanks time!

jer

hi jer , great hear enthusiasm product many of feel quite about.  , in pro production environment, too!

to on-clip gain come back, go view>on-clip ui , make sure it's checked.  also, note there's keyboard shortcut this, means if accidently hit "6," disappear (or reappear) again.

yes, final release version of audition 3 version 3.0.1, build 8346.1.  if machines need updating this, download update still available here:

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=92&platform=windows

...where you'll find 2 updates should run (3.0 , 3.0.1 amplitude statistics).

without knowing more system , hardware, helping stuttering isn't easy.  however, can play edit>preferences>system>wave cache (not issue), edit>audio hardware setup>edit view>control panel , mess buffer size.
