Why does the width of a line change depending on its length?

i using fireworks cs5.5 on windows 7 64 bit machine.

set screen resolution @ 72 dpi.

set line width @ 20 (tip_size?) , draw line 500 pixels long (hard line).

then, without changing settings, draw line 1000 pixels long.

what line width or tip_size read now?

on mine reads 23 pixels - know why?

is there setting not change line width if line length changes?

it has caused me lots of problems of late, , sure has not been so.

surely line width should not change depending on length of line drawn.

that's unusual behavior.

 

the thing can think of "scale strokes , effects" option in preferences. applies objects being scaled or transformed—not objects they're being drawn.
