FPA 500- JDatabaseMySQL::query: 1054 - Unknown column 'alias - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

here full error

500 - jdatabasemysql::query: 1054 - unknown column 'alias' in 'where clause' sql=select id buh3v_assets alias = 'root'

it comes on when in debugging mode. turn off debugging goes away. came across when poking around other errors.

i've searched forums , have not found exact error, couple similar

but these topics have "unknown column 'ordering'" while problem has unknown column 'alias'"

anyone have ideas?

is site created in joomla 2.5 or updated/migrated earlier versions?
do same results when using core templates?
are rsfiles referenced in error message date?
has issue existed installation or more recently?

the server appears missing mcrypt php extension. unless catered within other server settings might lead issues.
