Thread: Calling out to all enthusiasts!
[originally posted on xbmc forums]
i'm making new distribution of ubuntu (along scripts install application on other distributions) of integrate xbmc, mythtv , ubuntu desktop (xfce) in 1 package - onebox far dubbed.
aim of system provide hdtv, videos, music, internet tv, dvd , blu ray media single, quick , lightweight, set-top htpc box. far, going well. (see rest of specification here)
biggest hurdle getting integral. if take peek @ boxee, renowned internet tv box derived xbmc, looks , feels 'all together', , won't confuse users these different applications.
i've pretty got desktop system cracked. pc-mode of system allow every day tasks browse web, check email, , administrate files ease.
there media-mode, allow select tv , blu ray stuff , whatnot on main menu.
getting tv work xbmc pretty simple, using mythbox - possibly best solution - means launching 'scripts' menu. erm... users find complex experience. system needs compete set-top boxes too! means, scripts working on main menu, theming needs done (which next port of call)
you've got fact mythbox uses project mayhem iii theme. that's great , all, think confluence way forward (especially on newest unstable release of xbmc!) needs themed, , i'm not sure start on that.
leaves following issues:
this list isn't exhaustive, @ moment, i'm trying find people interested in helping project! i'm going away week starting today, if you're interested in helping make open source media comprehensive, post below or email me directly.
- finding compatible cards work dvb-s2 or dvb-t2
- adapting o/s able boot in 15 seconds , pretty ready tv or pc mode - depending on user's option configuration
- allowing scheduled recordings boot system
- making sure displays work on cases such antec fusion black
- displaying information , operation interfaces in friendly, neat , integral way
- (for me) buying components i'm looking test on real deployment
- making feel real set top box, more pc orientated approach
p.s. yes, know similar mythbuntu - tried make use of until realised how more comprehensive xbmc @ centre point.
