Thread: from nVidia to ATI driver question

i buy ati radeon 4650 card, nothing flash or expensive double i've paid before , i've seen used in current commercially available ubuntu systems , therefore safe bet.

wanted clued beforehand drivers. supposed uninstall onboard nvidia chip's drivers first or fit card, boot , add ati one? there won't clashes or issues if nvidia driver left?

if it's relevent, @ moment i'm connected monitor vga, resume using digital slot when have card.

thank you.

it make things little easier if remove nvidia drivers before shut down fit ati card.
on reboot boot default drivers you'll @ least have display , can install ati proprietary driver.

if forget might boot black screen, don't worry, can reboot , go 'recovery mode' , fix xserver menus in there.
way fix boot live cd or usb , go hdd ubuntu , delete /etc/x11/xorg.conf file tells ubuntu use whichever video card driver used last. long know in advance won't big problem. when reboot without /etc/x11/xorg.conf, ubuntu fall on default video drivers give pretty display until around installing ati proprietary driver.
