Replacing deleted files for administrator control panel help - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

firstly, new joomla apologise in advance errors on part. grateful assistance can offer however.
it has been time since installed joomla , free again wanted resume configuring side. however, files seem have been deleted prevent administrator control panel loading. can log site front end, after clicking on 'site administrator' see directory listing administrator directory.
i'm running joomla! 1.7, , whereas there hardly content on site, rather try fix problem wipe , start scratch. having been said, may best option joomla! not installed it's own directory seeing foolishly installed in public_html. appreciate advice on this.
also, although have not done of yet, can install , run forum assistance tool if helpful.

you can copy on joomla install files , overwrite what's there without losing anything. should not modify joomla php code , use overrides possible, replacing missing files or fixing corrupted files.
leave config.php intact has of db , other information site based off install ran.
additionally, if have setup index.html , doesn't exist, directory listing. check host or server config (likely not issue though), suitable options index.html, index.php, index.pl, , etc.
joomla's main settings , information in mysql, file overwrite nothing , not affect it.
if have made core joomla php modifications suggest refrain doing in future. make sure ftp transfer mode set binary not corrupt files.
